About bella

I am Bella Angelysse Matias

running for State Assembly in District 38.

I come from a hard-working family and humble beginnings. My father was a city worker, he started as a token-booth clerk for MTA and worked his way up to Motorman/Train Operator. My Mother worked at the local Gold’s Gym which today has become Limitless Fitness. As a teenager I learned by watching my parents that hard work is a key component to a better life. I started working a full-time job while still attending high school and after high school I moved into my own apartment while planning to attend college, but I became a mother and postponed college to raise my daughter, and when her father and I broke up, I knew my integrity, perseverance, and grit was going to have to carry us through. Fast forward to 2024 I am a college graduate, working in Social Services for 2 shelter facilities because I am passionate about helping those in need, and my 16-year-old daughter is graduating from high school a year early and receiving her first college acceptance letters.

I am no stranger to hard work, currently sustaining two full time jobs. As my day job I work as an Employment and Education specialist in an all men’s shelter, helping people get careers and jobs to get back on their feet, and providing an abundance of free training opportunities such as OSHA, SST, Flaggers, HVAC, Security Guard Training, Forklift Operation and more.

Overnight I work as a shift supervisor at a migrant shelter ensuring safety protocols are followed and that residents both in the shelter as well as in the surrounding community have their safety and rights protected.

Today I am proud that even maintaining two full time jobs I have the energy and passion to be a community organizer, leader, and advocate in every aspect of my life. I am one of the founders of the Domestic Violence Survivors Organization called Our Justice. I actively conduct youth mentorship and I am an advocate for students and parents alike through my role as the PTA President at John Adams High School.

I’m here to make a positive impact on our community, to change laws through my newly written legislative initiatives for justice where it’s needed most, and to bring support to our middle-class hard-working residents so that they can thrive, grow their small businesses into bigger ones, and empower our youth through education and mentorship to be the next leaders of our community. I want to bring new life and opportunities to our communities especially throughout the working class. I just need you to give ME an opportunity first. Let’s unite. #StrongerTogether
